In the evening of our last day in Palm Cove, the skies opened, and it was still raining like mad when we too our own coach (only us on it! :-) ) to the airport at 5.50 for our 7.35 flight. Kind of a fun experience to see what a good downpour is like, but the bus driver told us that this one was nothing, and that in some places in Australia they measure rainfall in Meters!
When we got to the airport, we quickly found that we shared a flight with a tour of pensioners, going on some sort of long "discover Australia" tour. Out of 105 seats on the plane, 101 were oldies on this tour, leaving 2 seats for us, and 2 for a Japanese couple of roughly similar age. :-) As that tour had booked up all seats in advance, we couldn't get seats next to each other on this one, so Victoria sat in front of me. To the right of me was a man that refused to turn off his phone when we were taking off. I looked over his shoulder and saw that we was texting someone:
" On a tour with 200 other people and not a single one that I feel any affiliation with"
That's when we both agreed that we'll never go on a tour like that :-)
Now sitting at a cafe in the town square by Uluru, haiving had lunch and waiting for 1.30 when our room would be ready. Tomorrow it's a morning tour out to the rock at 5 in the morning, so that we get to see the
sunrise :-)
The rain on the way to Cairns Airport
At the actual airport it wasn't raining any more, but we were stuck behind the line of neverending oldies
It was just us and 2 other people on the bus. All the tour ones had their own buses
First sight of Uluru in the distance
In the town square, having milkshakes and waiting for the room to get ready
Now you know why we dont do those tours, would drive me bonkers, and hey Im not old!
