... what we found when we got there was that the reputation was somewhat overstated. It was still a nice and fun place to go to and to see, but it's not really any more "far out" than Camden.
Having said that, it still turned out being a good day :-)
We:
- Managed to figure out how to get to Harajuku on the train, AND how to get tickets, which was not a small achievement.
- Strolled around in Harajuku, found that it was very much like a smaller Camden, and then headed for Yoyogi Park
- Walked around in Yoyogi Park for a while, not really seeing many dressed up people there either, but instead finding:
- Lots of people walking around with different coloured clown wigs on, and playing some sort of Tag game, where they spread out through the park without wearing the wigs, and then when the wigs came on, the tag:ing commenced
- A group of rockabillys on the way out of the park, doing some twist dancy thing
- Lots of groups of regularly dressed young people practising some sort of group dance moves - with varying levels of success...
- One group that was dressed up
A really cool dog enclosure, where people let their dogs loose so they could run around. Pugs seems to be the thing to have in Tokyo, and they were all dressed up in awful outfits! - Got back to Harajuku and got ourselves a really nice crepe with sweet stuff in
- Found a St Patricks Day parade!!! Not a single Irish person in it though :-)
- Realised that we were absolutely shattered, and went home
All in all, a good an chilled day
